  • Overview

    The Mental Health MH Clinician, through face-to-face contact, provides individualized services that are designed to provide therapeutic interventions, informational and instructional activities, and skill development experiences that build on identified strengths. The MH Clinician will work to empower the family to more effectively manage the home environment and maintain the child within the home setting. The MH Clinician will also complete other assessments as directed by the Director of Mental Health Services, to meet the needs of both children and adults served in the department and agency. Additional clinical responsibilities may be required, in the greater behavioral health service department. Those responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:   referral, screening, assessment, staff training, counseling, mental health consultation, debriefing with staff, positive behavioral support, and emergency plan development and monitoring. The Mental Health MH Clinician maintains loyalty to the organization, its beliefs, values, mission, vision and expectations and to the recipients of services.


    1. Develops a relationship with individual served and family system.
    2. Develops an individualized plan based on the intake assessment, in coordination with the individuals supported, their families, mental health supervisors, and direct support staff.
    3. Completes all required state and federal screening and assessments.  
    4. Assists the family in implementing the individualized plan using evidence-based therapeutic modalities. 
    5. Provides home-based therapy in the home environment as needed.
    6. Provides group psychotherapy and creates lesson plans.  
    7. Participates in treatment team meetings as necessary. 
    8. Provides clinical support when individual supported is in transition or is experiencing a crisis. 
    9. Attends all required agency trainings and all required clinical trainings to maintain scope of practice for populations served.  
    10. Meets billing productivity requirements for the position on a monthly and annual basis.
    11. Provides documentation according to State, Federal and agency standards.
    12. Accepts responsibility for tasks not otherwise specified, but which are in the best interest of individuals served or the agency.



    1. Must have a Master’s Degree in social work, psychology or related clinical field (a professional license appropriate to field of specialization also preferred).
    2. Possesses a minimum of one year experience using a variety of clinical approaches with children, adolescents or adults and their family systems.
    3. Must have experience with cognitive and developmentally delayed populations as well as trauma centered treatment services preferred.




    1. Must have knowledge of life-span and child development issues. 
    2. Must have knowledge of physical, emotional and behavioral aspects of the severely emotionally disturbed/developmentally disabled children and adults.
    3. Demonstrates the ability to work with parents who have abused and/or neglected their children, with understanding and acceptance.
    4. Must have knowledge of parenting and child management skills.

    5. Must have knowledge of assessment and goal setting techniques for purposes of treatment plan development and implementation.
    6. Must have an understanding of psychological testing results, psychiatric evaluation results, and clear understanding of the DSM 5.



    • Ability to lift 25 lbs, or 1/3 of body weight, whichever is less, from a squat-and-kneel position
    • Possess a valid driver license & at least 3 years of driving experience (may include permit time)
    • Provide driving record that meets agency guidelines
    • Pass a criminal background check under state regulation
