  • Overview

    The Director of Community Support Services (DCSS) works to assure quality teaching and support services are provided for support recipients in the Kodiak region. The DCSS teaches, coaches, and mentors employees and ensures a team effort exists in supporting those being served. The DCSS ensures services address the health and safety needs of support recipients while providing positive learning and inclusion opportunities. This position is responsible for the management and administration of the Kodiak region, including planning, organizing, coordinating and monitoring department activities.  The DCSS is responsible for ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and policies and procedures of the Agency. This position monitors expenditures, maintains adequate staffing levels, evaluates employees and contributes to the overall planning and development of the Agency.

    Responsibilities

    1. Leads and manages the activities of the Kodiak region, including all administrative and support functions.  
    2. Supervises, develops, evaluates, counsels, and disciplines staff through teaching, coaching and mentoring.
    3. Ensures quality services are delivered in alignment with support recipients’ Plan of Care and/or support plan.
    4. Instructs staff in areas such as the application of specific procedures, behavior modification techniques, objective settings, behavior intervention, data-based systems, and assessment.
    5. Supervises and manages the Kodiak region for provision of normalizing residential and developmental services.
    6. Ensures compliance with all applicable Medicaid standards, regulations and guidelines, grants, and licensing.
    7. Ensures that supported living facilities meet health and safety standards.
    8. Coordinates with Agency licensing personnel for initial licensing of Family Habilitation, Foster Care and Assisted Living Homes, and ensures ongoing compliance with licensing regulations.
    9. Participates in planning and development activities for the Kodiak region, as well as the Agency.
    10. Prepares network budget, monitors all monthly expenditures, approves purchase requests, and exercises cost control.
    11. Prepares program proposal, and assesses and evaluates program to ensure department goals and objectives are met.
    12. Prepares and submits required reports and documentation to the State or Agency as required or requested within given timelines.

    Qualifications

    Required

     

    1. Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field required. Concentration of study in Special Education, Developmental Disabilities, Behavioral Sciences, or other directly related area preferred. Experience in lieu of education may be accepted on a two for one basis in appropriate fields.   
    2. Four years of supervisory experience in a Social Services field required; two years of which must include case management.

    Desired

       1. Master’s degree in a Human Services field

     

    Other

    • Ability to lift 35 lbs, or 1/3 of body weight, whichever is less, from a squat-and-kneel position
    • Must be 18 years or older, per State of Alaska regulations
    • Possess a valid driver license & at least 3 years of driving experience (may include permit time)
    • Provide driving record that meets Agency guidelines
