    The Diversity and Inclusion Specialist serves as a primary point of contact and advocate for our direct support workforce, as well as all employees across the Agency. The Diversity and Inclusion Specialist meets with employees to hear their concerns and conducts appropriate follow-up to ensure items are addressed. This position promotes retention efforts and provides support and analytics to help guide Agency efforts in this area. The Diversity and Inclusion Specialist assists employees in navigating through complex employment situations, such as conflict resolution and grievance procedures, as well as provides support during inquiries and investigations. This position focuses on meeting the needs of staff through assisting in accommodation requests and explaining a wide variety of policies, procedures, and regulations.


    1. Serves as the primary point of contact for direct support staff, as well as all other staff in need of human resources guidance and support. Advocates for employees by meeting with employees and addressing concerns.
    2. Attends meetings and events that focus on our direct support workforce; provides input and feedback in order to ensure Hope’s culture and values are maintained in all interactions amongst staff. Represents and provides voice to the direct support workforce when present at various meetings or work groups across Hope.
    3. Promotes retention efforts for the agency, including meeting with exiting employees to discuss potential options for staying with Hope, discussing benefit transitions, conducting exit interviews etc. Tracks, analyzes, and reports relevant exit survey data on a monthly basis.
    4. Reaches out to each new hire throughout their first six months of employment to ensure connection with their supervisor and within the Agency.
    5. Assists employees by providing support in formal and informal inquiries and investigations conducted by the Investigator and Human Resources department. Communicates regularly with all employees impacted by such investigations.
    6. Guides and supports employees in navigating through formal conflict resolution and grievance procedures, as outlined in the Employee Practices Manual. Ensures open lines of communication with the grieving employee, supervisor, and Human Resources.
    7. Facilitates support for employees experiencing a disability who need reasonable accommodations to perform the essential duties of their job. Meets with the employee and supervisor to begin the interactive dialogue, provide necessary paperwork, and outline processes for continued communication and collaboration to ensure the employee’s success.
    8. Provides support to employees by providing explanation and context for human resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, and/or employment regulations that apply to them and their unique employment situations.
    9. Conducts surveys, reviews and analyzes metrics and data, in order to identify areas of strength and opportunity for change initiatives that will positively influence the retention of staff; provides recommendations based on findings to executive management as needed. Reports monthly to Director of HR on key performance indicators, strategies and initiatives, employee relations, and other items as assigned.
    10. Monitors, analyzes, tracks, and reports changes in company demographics and diversity related issues. Provides assistance to recruitment function in attracting diverse talent; and to employee development function in creating programs/training materials to promote retention of a diverse workforce.
    11. Facilitates discussions and provides guidance on workforce diversity best practices, programs and policies in support of Agency goals.
    12. Maintains current knowledge of human resources federal and state laws including Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), ADA, Affordable Care Act (ACA), Wage and Hour, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), USERRA, etc.



    • Bachelor’s degree required in human resources, business, or directly related field. Experience in lieu of education may be accepted on a two for one basis in appropriate fields.
    • PHR or SHRM-CP certification required within six months of hire.


    • Four years of direct experience in human resources required; up to one year in a management or supervisory role permitted to meet four year requirement.


    • Possesses a valid Alaska driver’s license and has at least three years of driving experience (may include permit time).
    • Meets State and Agency requirements for passing a criminal background check upon hire and as required thereafter.
    • Lifts 25 pounds from a squat and kneel position on the floor.
    • Obtains a tuberculin clearance at time of employment and annually thereafter.
