    The Employment Support Specialist (ESS) provides services to Hope support recipients by helping them meet their life and employment goals.  The ESS provides job coaching at a work or volunteer site and teaches the support recipient to perform their work duties in the manner as required by the employer or volunteer entity.  The ESS may assist their Supervisor in developing the work placement and assisting the support recipient with obtaining the position. The Employment Support Specialist maintains loyalty to the organization, its beliefs, values, mission, vision, and expectations, and to the recipients of services.


    Positions are available in Anchorage and Eagle River; schedules may vary.  


    • Provides support services as outlined in the Plan of Care/Employment Plan and/or support plan and any behavioral health protocols, including but not limited to activities of daily living, inclusionary activities, employment, pre-employment, and job readiness skills. 
    • Teaches required job skills and models appropriate work behaviors, appearance, and attitudes. 
    • Models and mentors positive communications and behaviors. Pre-teaches alternatives and manages less desirable behaviors through informal assessment and implementation of strategies. Collaborates with all the members of the team to develop and implement support plans and monitor their effectiveness. 
    • Engages in problem-solving and critical thinking at work or volunteer sites. Works with minimal supervision.
    • Assists the Employment Support Supervisor in the coordination of services and logistics for service provision. Promptly notifies supervisor about changes in work schedule or availability. 
    • Coordinates transportation for support recipients to volunteer and employment sites, which may include transporting in a personal vehicle or arranging the use of public transportation.
    • Provides direct care as needed at employment or volunteer site, such as assistance with toileting or medication administration.
    • Completes accurate, timely, and thorough documentation, including but not limited to, service notes, goal tracking, incident reports, and time cards, to be in compliance with Agency standards and federal and state regulations.
    • Monitors environments, vehicles, equipment, and events for safety, accessibility, maintenance, and cleanliness.
    • Works a variety of hours and locations and with a number of different support recipients. 




    • High School diploma or GED required.
    • Post-secondary education or training preferred.


    • One year of work experience required 
    • Six months of experience working or volunteering with individuals who experience disabilities or challenging behaviors preferred.


    • Possesses a valid Alaska driver’s license and has at least 1 (one) year of driving experience (may include permit time).
    • Ability to safely operate Agency vehicles when needed. Possesses reliable transportation and vehicle insurance when transporting support recipients or conducting agency business.
    • Meets State and Agency requirements for passing a criminal background check upon hire and as required thereafter.
    • Lifts 35 pounds from a squat and kneel position on the floor.
